Nutmeg Fife and Drum Corps
Currently looking for New Recruits

If you're headed to the Ledyard Memorial Day Parade, you will see the Nutmeg Junior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps.  The Corps is the only group selected to perform at the State Pier in New London, as the official greeters of cruise ship passengers.  In addition to local parades, they perform in New York's St. Patrick's Day Parade, many festivals, reenactments and musters and Mytic Seaports' Lantern Light Tours.  Unlike many activities today, the Corps is highly disciplined - which accounts for the amazing talent of the Volunteers, many of whom can play fife, snare, and bass drum with equal precision.  The Corps is looking for new members, kids ages nine to fifteen (although kids are allowed to remain in the Corps until they graduate from high school).  This is a great opportunity to get all the kids in a single activity, and is very easy and inexpensive to join.  No experience is required.  Music, instruments, weekly instruction and uniforms are all given as part of an annual twenty-five dollar dues.  The instructors are wonderful and really know how to work with kids.  The Corps practices on Monday nights in Groton.  For more information call director Terrie Lamb at 446-8626 or recruiter Vilma Gregoropoulos at 535-1677 or email nutmegfifedrum@aol.com.
